    Wink Great Copy

Surfing the net for a message board I came across this ad.

    Fast and flexible!
Finally! A downloadable, database driven message board that doesn't require brain surgery to implement.
    From: http://www.infopop.com/products/ubbthreads/

I had to laugh, but its also a great example of copy.

What's the best copy you've seen?

    It's a terrible OVERPRICED copy.
    $229/License! That's a rip off

Finally UBB has realized that if they want to stay alive they need to run a database drive forum but they're already to late in the race. vBB is on top and has products already close on it's heals, for free like phpBB.

Why would you pay triple the price for a worse product? vBB licenses are $85 leased for 1 year. Better year phpBB is free...

    Everyone wave goodbye to UBB

Infopop's stuff is just way to expensive, including their hosting. UBB is far inferior to vB. phpBB is free and I like it better than UBB.

Quality is important for some people, and the must be making a bit of $$$ or there site wouldnt be there any more.

I would not pay any more than $50 for a forum as there are loads that are free or cheap.

    But some poeple obviously do!

A lot of sites that are running the old versions of UBB would rather pay $229 for an upgrade then pay $169 and switch over to a BBS they are not familiar with, like Vbulletin

I think most of this conversation belongs in the Community Construction Zone hint-hint

Has anybody got anything to share about getting well-written copy to promote their product?

Well... next month, SitePoint will publish a two-part article/tutorial on how to write attention-grabbing headlines and compelling opening paragraphs...
