    opera changing file icons

I just downloaded the latest Opera 9.x and it immediately started changing my html file icons from FF to Opera and changing file properties to auto-open with Opera. Ack. Is there a recommended forum out there for Opera? Thanks for any help.

It would only have done that if you checked the box asking Opera to make itself your default browser. All browsers ask that question when they are first installed.

To change the default to whichever browser you want just open that browser and go into Preferences and check the box making the browser the default.

This happened to me at the latest Opera upgrade, even though I explicitly unchecked the checkbox for associating various file types with Opera. I think it was a bug in the installer.

Why the Tommy? I would be happy to see Opera take control of my web experience

Because we need Internet Explorer to be our default browser at the office, unfortunately.

That's one thing I like about being self-employed, my office uses whatever I tell it too

I notice that a few .html files are still claimed by opera (after resetting my default). They're fully operational, so it's amusing and no harm done.

BTW, a couple of days ago, apparently, Opera released a new version (beta?) that was getting some attention. Why was that? (If this is too off-topic, sorry, just ignore...)

The attention was because of a new feature built into Opera 10 beta. It's called Opera Unite and essentially means your Opera browser can work as a web server, too!

Does the new beta 10.x work well? The server? It sounds like a good -- or at least interesting -- idea. I need to read the doc that you linked. Next.... so much to do... and time is an illusion (proxy for entropy)...
