    Here's a few that I like...

KeywordLuv - so commenters can put keywords in their link
    TinyMCEComments - gives comments tinymce
    FeedburnerFeedsmith - obvious
RSSFooter - allows you to add stuff to the footer of your feed

Akismet – absolutely essential to reduce or eliminate spam comments. Since I set up Akismet, I have had no spam comments get through. It’s that good.

The 'Yet Another Related Posts' plugin is good for increasing your pageviews. TweetMeMe.com's plugins is nice for encouraging retweets and more traffic. As mentioned All-in-one SEO, wp backup, and Feedburner Feedsmith are musts. MaxBlog Press Ping Optimizer is also nice.

My favorite plug-ins are the ones you end up making yourself.

Aside from them, I think all-in-one SEO and Akismet are the most useful.

They have many great plugins. But the All in one seo and platinum seo are very useful. The themes are great also. Askimet has got to be number one, its almost mandatory.

A few hours ago I migrated my very very old Moveable Type Blog to WP. I had forgotten about the site and had not made a Post in about 3 years. The site still garners some authority incomming links which results in a PR 4 and recieves some organic traffic. While the conversion was rather mundane, what kept bothering me is exactly how I would handle the changed links.

    Briefly:

With MT its foo.html or /archive/foo.html and after I set Permalinks to "/%postname%/" WP is "site.com/post_title/

I finally found "Smart 404 for Wordpress" at "http://michael.tyson.id.au/wordpress/plugins/smart-404/"

What makes this plugin so neat is this:

This plugin will perform a search of your posts, tags and categories, using keywords from the requested URL. If there’s a match, automatically redirect to that page instead of showing the error.

The authors site has some additonal code to insert in your 404.php in the event that the plug in fails to automatically redirect. Very friendly and complete for a visitor.

Slightly off topic or way off topic: While I was cleaning up this Blog I found some Bandwidth consumption abuse. Try this site for those IPs you wish to send to never never land:

We have a core set of plugins that we installed with every client project requiring wordpress but I'd say about 2/3 of those plugins we've wound up customizing, making them better than the original. So, don't be locked in to only using functionality provided by the "out-of-the-box" plugin.
