Text based drop down menu with mouseovers? (where to get)

    Hi,
I was wondering if anyone knows where to grab a premade script that will allow the implmentation of a text based drop down menu similar to that on http://www.imhosted.com/. (note the blue menu at the top)

From what I can tell this uses just javascript. I have seen several scripts out there that do similar things but they all use images.

    Any help is much appreciated.

The main menu on dhtmlcentral is what you call 'text based'. I don't see any images in there
But you could also just rip the menu from imhosted.com IMHO

    cheers,
    Jack

    Drew,
Could you link me to the exact script you use from there? I have tried quite a few, but none work like the one on imhosted.com

    Jack,
Thanks for your help. I had thought about grabbing the one from imhosted, but it looks homegrown, and it checks the browser, and uses a different JS file depending on the type of browser. It looks great, but I dont want to be accused of stealing someone elses work, as we are in the same line of work and it would be easy for someone to stumble across it.

    Thanks

dynamic drive does have a menu just like what they are using called the hv menu. All the site listed does it call a different style sheet based on the broswer, and you can do that too. There is an example on the hv menu horizontal and vertical.

Thanks I will look into it.

The reason I like the menu on imhosted so much, is because they design their own html and just put "onmouseover" into the links to invoke the menus.

Some of the other menus I have seen, generate the entire menu for you, and you have to play with x and y positioning etc. I am not good in this area at all. I am assuming this is considered true DHTML where as I am just looking for javascript.

For example, I tried out http://www.softcomplex.com/products/tigra_menu/

Great Menu I must say, but I cannot get it to position exactly where I want it on the page and look right too.

I just checked out the HV menu. Looks like its another one that requires you to position it. Its weird that there are no other scripts on the net, like the one used on imhosted.

The thing is that most menus of this type use positioning of some type, be it relative or absolute. Also that they are linking some outside javascripts, who knows what are in those files. You are going to have to try a script. It's all trial and error. Unfortnately it is rare that you find a script that works excatly like you want unless ts something very simple. You are going to have to play around with the script to get the way you want it to be.

No; What you're looking for is DHTML. Anything that involves HTML, CSS, and JavaScript is considered DHTML. I suppose it'd help to know if you know anything about JavaScript, because then I'd tell you to just check out ImHosted's menu and learn from it. There's nothing wrong with learning from other people's code, as long as they coded it well.

I too have been looking for a drop down menu script, I found one that I like, but the only problem is, each drop down doesn't overlap the next (ie., If one menu is say 140 in width, I would have to give the head category at least that much so that the next drop down menu isn't under a totally different category)

I've been trying to figure it out, but I gave up on it.

Many of the scripts mentioned would be very applicable I think if the person using them were able to do the setting for positioning correctly. I too am having that problem. Many scripts out there but most seem to need positioning settings customized.

So does anyone know of a good Application or tool that can assist with coordinates x y positioning? Maybe that would help those of us trying to get these scripts to work properly.
