No. I'm a bit paranoid and generally give it a week for all my human guinea pigs to discover all the faults for it :P

Looks great though, I like the look of the widgetized admin area, but can't really see the use of the Auto Theme installer for high end users.

Yeah I typically wait as well for a major release, but it's been pretty stable since beta 2. I just upgraded my main two sites without issue.

consider me a guinea pig and while it hasn't "broken" my sites I hvae three that "updated" but didn't update at all. I have another one that upgraded seemingly fine but can't install themes (it tries for a while, though). And another I'm just waiting.

I've been running a nightly since before the first beta came out and haven't had any problems. The new widget interface is a vast improvement.

I think the new theme installer will make a big difference to the way the WP theme industry operates.

I have upgraded one of my Blogs from 2.7.1 to 2.8 the Auto Install failed so I did it the old fashioned way.

So far no glitches. I have about 10 plugins on that site all are working. 2 had to be updated.

    So far so good.

Upgraded one site yesterday with the auto upgrade link in the admin panel.
In the other site the upgrade link didn't show up yesterday, but it did today. Updated that one too without a problem.

I've upgraded most of my blogs now and now problems yet - I like the new faster admin and other upgrades but not a massive deployment - seems to be so many versions of wordpress and plugin updates to spend time on, but at least the system is fairly stable

I have always manually upgraded but this time I thought I'd try the "auto" upgrade and then only need to upload my hacked core files (eg. allowing some HTML tags in my RSS feed),

It seemed to go OK but when I went to view my site I got an Internal Server Error. I tracked the problem down to a plugin so I deactivated it and most things were then OK.

I did find that 2.8 introduces some invalid XHTML if you are using the default theme or the search widget. A few files contain the role attribute which AFAIK is a module and in the draft for XHTML 2 but the validator squawks about in in version 1.0

I hacked it out and it didn't seem to break anything by not being there, but I need to check a few more files to be certain.

There seems to be a shortage of html/css experts helping out with WordPress and it seems to lead to some shonky coding practices in the core unfortunately. The gallery feature is a prime case in point.

Upgraded my installs to make sure the plugins I support still work. One broke due to some changes in the tagging interface, otherwise all good.

I tried to upgrade to WP2.7 recently and it failed as my blog could not upload completely so I'm giving it a miss for WP2.8. I'm happy with my WP2.6. Well as they say if it ain't broke don't fix it.

That may be true, but version 2.6 is "broken".

    Version 2.7 http://codex.wordpress.org/Changelog/2.7
consisted of bugfixes, feature enhancements, and security fixes
    669 closed trac tickets http://core.trac.wordpress.org/query...e=2.7&order=id

    Version 2.7.1 http://codex.wordpress.org/Changelog/2.7.1
    was comprised of bug fixes
    65 fixes http://core.trac.wordpress.org/query...order=priority

Version 2.8 (Changelog not yet written)

So although many of the changes are enhancements that you might be able to do without, there are quite a few bug fixes, and perhaps most importantly, some security fixes.

AFAIK there are no major security fixes as of the last of the 2.6.x line. There are probably minor security fixes, but I don't think there is anything worth worrying about too much, or at least I haven't heard of any.
