    Swish v.s. Flash

I know this has probably been debated many times.

But I am curious, can any one point out swish's limitations compared to flash, say ver 5? What swish cant do that flash can?

I have been learning flash instead of swish, maybe that is best. But maybe swish can do some things easier or faster? I know text annimations is one of them.

    Thanks in advance.

    Ronnie,

Good question. Flash is much more powerful for large-scale multimedia presentations. What makes Flash so powerful is its complete backend accessible by ActionScripting. Not only can you draw elements and move them around, but you can program your own functions and have control of every object on the screen numerically. While Swish does a little of this, it is not nearly as complete as Flash's ActionScripting. In a perfect world, I would create portions of Flash animations in Swish (such as text effects) and then import them into Flash as movie objects.

    Hope that helps,
    Goof

    Thanks Goof.

Thats about what I thought, the backend, action scripting and more control. Course, action scripting seems like a fun one. Is it similar to any other languages?

So importing swish objects into flash is do-able, did'nt think about that.

Any one know any good tutorials for action scripting?

I was a beta user of swish, back when it was just text effects only. Its gotten so useless now I don't even use it, Swish is for the instant gratification people, if your wanting to make an impression use the flash editing environment, and learn actionscript.

if you have problems go here first, were-here is a valuable resource for actionscript.

    anywho hope that helps!

    Cool, Thanks Boomer

In your opinion, what makes swish so useless? Just curious if I should bother using it.

    Thanks for the link!

The only use I see for swish IMHO is text effects other than that its best to just export the text effect to .swf and import into flash, which will give you more options in the end results.

Like I say if your someone wanting to do a quick brochure-ware-ish site, swish is for you, if your wanting to get down and more nitty gritty for the polished look go with flash.

    just my 2c.

well, here starts the comparison again !

well, both are different products , but one is based on the other !

Swish is a software which you would want to use for making Dynamic Flash files quickly It can also be said it is for Flash beginners. the text and morphing effects it provides is good and direct.

But the effects are limited and if you want to do more niche, u need Flash, cause it s the best dynamic tool where you can edit to the fullest extent ur animation if u know Flash well that is. And with Action Script... the fun and quality doubles.

So for quick stuff and basic stuff- Swish and u want quality with time does not matter - Flash

    Peace.
