hi admin, i have just checked it. site looks much more professional than current marketplace but pricing on current sitepoint is comfortable whereas you have hiked listing fees very much in flippa which is not justified i guess.
you should consider revising the listing fees for sellers there as its already competitive market these days with declining revenues.
    just my personal opinion.

So far I really like what I'm seeing with Flippa. Great job SitePoint!

Edited to add: Are we able to take part in the beta test by posting fake beta test listings? I was going to try doing that but wasn't sure if the ordering system is live and would actually charge me for doing so.

Yes, please do post listings and try it out. All the listings are fake - you won't be charged anything. Let us know what you think.

just saw it, site looks great and promising, great domain name as well, wish all the best.

just one pet peeve with the pricing model,

it says "At the same time we also want to lower the upfront cost to you, reduce your risk, and align our interests with yours."

right now the entry cost for newbies just starting out in the game with fresh "startup" sites is $10. the new pricing structure will make it $19.95, twice as expensive to list, hence twice as risky. How is that lowering the upfront cost and risk??

I know $19.95 is not much, but for those selling sites in the $200-$300 range, the new pricing with additional 5% success fee, translates to over 100% increase in fees just to enter the marketplace, which increases the barrier to entry, not the other way around. How do you explain it to the newbies and amateurs just learning the ropes and hoping to succeed?

For those selling premium sites, a higher fee doesn't really make much difference, but is an effective way of somewhat limiting non-quality submissions because of higher cost.

I think a higher entry cost might lower participation rate, but let's wait and see.

Again, great to see this new auction platform. Good Luck

    James

What happens to all the other parts of the marketplace that don't involve buying and selling websites? Like advertising services, looking to hire, and selling content and scripts?

With Flippa spinning off into an entirely separate company, does it make sense for the SitePoint forums to send business over there? Is it a wholly owned company whose profits return to SP?

When individuals want to advertise to SitePoint members, they can currently do so for a $20 listing in the marketplace. What do they do once the marketplace is no longer part of this site?

Basically I'm wondering how the relationship between the two sites will work out

    very nice =)

one thing i noticed straight away which you can fix would be the tabs "feature listing, recent auctions etc..." It was annoying how when you click a tab and the whole pages loads again and you have to scroll back down to see what you wanted to see when you click...

Also the part where you have the total figures of sales etc... should really list that with the quote "Flippa is the world's largest community of web site buyers." As i'm assuming you would want people to see that figure and trust the website to sell / buy on it.

It certainly looks nice and promising and it looks that you're taking the same road as with the contests, by placing them in their own domain and server. First impression is good, it seems that it is easy to use. The site is really "flipante".

    Off Topic:

I was rolling on the floor when I read the name... flipa is a very coloquial way in Spain (not in South America) to say that something is impressive and outstanding... although it is real meaning is more related to the effect of drugs have on persons (allucinations and fanstasies, etc)... I guess the name is appropiate

In Spanish, flipa is written with one "p", but even if it has "pp", it would be pronouced exactly the same .

I'm using Chrome 2.0.172.31 (newest version) and when I go to the sign in screen, Chrome puts a caution symbol in the url field, which when mouse hovered, claims 'This page contains some insecure elements'.

Thus, I won't be logging in.

Looks nice but the fees are way too high. Well, high enough to get me to crack open my search tool to start looking for other places to buy/sell this type of thing anyway.

First, I think it's an odd name, or is it just me?
But I'm looking forward to see the finished result!

I think the name is a play on words "site flipper", maybe you already figured that out. or maybe I'm wrong.

Couple things I want to say..

Unlike the current marketplace, I think you need to filter out the junk listing. I see 5-10 legit websites for sale on the current marketplace. The marketplace has become so filled with bullshat ads recently that I don't even check this site anymore when I'm looking for sites to purchase.
I think the increased listing price would help, but not solve the problem.

    Check out the "Advanced Search".

You can create your own preset filters, based on any criteria that you like...

Those filters will then appear in the "Saved Searches" drop down and you can even setup email notifications, so you get emails whenever sites matching your criteria are listed.

That will remain on sitepoint.com. Only the website sales will be moved to flippa.com. The marketplace tab on sitepoint.com will remain as classified listings for anything and everything related to web design and development.

I don't understand why you would want to move the once very successful template auction into a classifieds type placement when it was doing relatively well. The community, as far as what I've read from users, very much dislike the new move. Why not just leave that the way it was even while releasing Flippa? Also, this is the first I've heard of the price hike, and I have to say, for lack of a better term..that sucks. Now if Flippa doesn't do as well as the website auction you had here on SitePoint you might also turn that once successful auction into something that resembles the new template classifieds area.

I really hope everything works out nicely for SitePoint and the dedicated community as well.
