How to make my program more perfect?

Hello
I'm a new student to learn how to make a prgram by C++. And after my class for designing program, teacher told me that you should read the book which writes by foreigner.
Of course, I'm a Chinese student. So maybe it's a little difficult for me to read English programming book. So I need somebody's help.
If you have any good ideas, please tell me.
Maybe you want to know, why I should read some English programming books.
The reason is that I want to be better than the boys. So many people think that a girl/woman programmer is very sick. But I want change people's opinion.
My English is not very well. But I need you help, please.
