    Arrow June Photography Showcase: Decay

Well, although June is a time of blooming flowers, longer days, weddings and all things that speak 'renewal', we decided a good counterpoint to last month's theme would be Decay.

This does not mean it must be macabre, however. Take some liberal license with your interpretation of the theme and Show Us Your Stuff, phellow photographers!

With a fear of being redundant, here is one to get us started:

Three items from me. The first is a collage I quickly whipped together from one of the former Eastern German border crossings, which is now deteriorating. The second is from the inside of a German bunker tank turret in Norway, showing some beautiful peeling paint. The third is from a junk heap in Norway, filled with various tank parts.

I'd love to get into urban exploration, but unfortunately there are not many suitable areas here in Denmark.

Only on half of the planet. Here's an image of the short, cold, near icy days we're experiencing in the bottom half.

And here's some 3D decay which has taken place over the past two thousand years in the top half.

BTW, the image above is of Davids Castle in Jerusalem, Israel. It's a parallel 3D image.

Here's a smaller version for those of you who find the larger one too hard to see in 3D.

    Very interesting pics guys

I didn't think at first about how decay happens to civilisations, but Ryan's post made me remember this monument which had seen better days:

I know what you mean There's a huge steelworks which is situated on the eastern coast where I live, and it looks so interesting from the nearby roads. I have been scouting possible locations to shoot it from, but because of where it is there are not many places, mostly private land.

I find there are so many beautiful textures to be found on old rusting machinery, and even machines that are in use have wear and tear on them, they almost take the pictures themselves.

I agree. I've been in quite a few abandoned military installations, which I find particularly, because much of the equipment is often left behind. I've seen grenade crates, M1 Garand clip holders and ABC-suits left behind in bunkers.

Couldn't agree more. Once I get some more time (yeah right ), I'll get a real camera, and start looking for suitable places.

    Here's a demonstration of non-decay:

That may look like a fairly bland building (it's the Holy Church of the Sepulchre in Jerusalem, Israel). But if you look closer you will see an equally innocuous looking ladder:

And here is the exact same ladder in 1892, it hasn't moved!!!

BTW, I didn't take that last photo myself

Thanks. As a photojournalist, I don't miss too many opportunities, as I always have my camera with me.
