RSS Feed Error

    I have a self hosted wordpress blog, and I discovered that my rss feed doesn't load. It is redirected to feedburner and after I did a check using Feed Validator I got the following error:

    XML parsing error: <unknown>:819:3: mismatched tag [help]

    As far as I see in the actual code it is nothing wrong. The tag is opened in the beginning and closed in the end

.

    Do you have any idea how can I repair this?

    Thank you in advance.

    I would surely like to help you but it would have been better if you would have copied the code instead of the error message..

    It would have been clear what went wrong.Sometimes we cant figure out our own silly mistake but others can do that very easily...

    So please provide your code so that we can help you sort it out.

    It looks like the bracketed "more dots" - [...] - are breaking the closing CDATA tag.
    Code XML:

    We are very busy everyday from the second we wake up until late at night when we go back to sleep. Our brain is active all the time, especially during the day when we focus our attention to a variety of things at the same time, and yet with all the activities and all the [...]

    This makes everything after the description tag a comment, including the remaining XML tags.

    Oddly, my feed also has [...] but loads OK in Firefox and passes validation, so maybe it's a feedburner thing?

    I tried disabling the feedburner plugin and the same. I can't find the function in wp-includes that outputs this brackets. It's not in the rss.php. I suspected that I had something wrong in my post code but I don't because I see that the comment feed is also broken.

    This is the entire output of feedvalidator. The error is at line 819 they say.

    I also copied the output above in Dreamweaver and I validated it. The errors where:
    Line 819: Expected end of tag 'atom:link'[xml]
    Line 820: Expected end of tag 'channel'[xml]
    Line 820:The input ended before all started tags were ended. Last tag started was 'rss'[xml]

    So I added the line:
at the very end like so:

    Now it validates ok, but how can I correct the functions in feed.php? That is the question

    Ok I figured it out. The error was due to some modifications I made to the doctype of my theme. All wordpress is xhtml based and my theme was html so I had a plugin that get's read of the / at the end of xhtml tags. It's called xhtml-to-html.php. As a piece of advice don't do it. I wanted to do these modifications because my page validated my w3c is full of errors due mainly to google scripting which is javascript html. But I will leave it like this for the moment.

    Thanks anyway.

    That's the difference. My feed has an atom link, but it's self-closing
    Code XML:

the Mittineague Blog

    Rather than adding a closing tag near the end, I think it would be better to make your atom link tag self-closing too
    Code XML:
      10.

      11.
Vlad and Alice

      12.

    Exactly, everything was ok with the original wordpress code, but that plugin I installed was stripping self closing tag for html. I uninstalled it and now it works. Everything is pure xhtml as is supposed to. Now my only concern is to make the feed list more than 10 feeds at once. I modified my options in settings-reading but i think the number of feeds is related to the number of posts on the front page. And I don't want to list more than 10 posts on the front page because the loading time would be higher.

    Anyway thank you for your advices...

    If you are talking about the plugin by John Kilroy, you could try it with these changes
    PHP Code:
    function HTMLify($buffer) {
    /* leave admin pages and feeds alone */

    if ( ( stripos($buffer'/wp-admin/css/') !== false ) || ( stripos($buffer'<rss version=') !== false ) ) return $buffer;
    .....
    /* use more restrictive regex
      $xhtml[2] = '/\/>/';
      $xhtml[3] = '/\/\s+>/';
    */

    $xhtml[2] = '/(<area|<base|<basefont|<br|<col|<frame|<hr|<img|<input|<isindex|<link|<meta|<param)\s*\/\s*>/';

    $xhtml[3] = '/(<area |<base |<basefont |<br |<col |<frame |<hr |<img |<input |<isindex |<link |<meta |<param )([^>]*)\s*\/\s*>/';
    .....
    /* use more complex replacement
      $html[2] = '>';
      $html[3] = '>';
    */

    $html[2] = '$1>';

    $html[3] = '$1$2>';
    .....
    As for the # feed items vs. # posts on front page, maybe use a "feed items" plugin?

    Yes i was using John Kilroy's plugin. Today I found out that it also messed with my sitemap. I will do the modifications you suggested and I'll get back. I will also send him a message. Thank you for your time.
