I buy all my domain at dreamhost for $9.95 it has whois privacy and total acces to dns and whois infos.
It's better than other places I looked, like hostgator I payed like $15 for a domain name AND I had to pay $10 more per year for a simple whois privacy. $25 the domain name, thank you!

Buying at Yahoo is like more than stupid, I'm not ready for that yet.

If that is the case then i don't think there is any issue in taking this $1.99 offer from YAHOO. Before 2nd year, you should transfer your registration to other domain registration company.

Anything below $6.25 - $6.50 (or close to this range) is what Verisign charges for .coms. SO offering any domains for below this is a loss leader (losing money up front so that a company can gain marketshare). They of course make those losses up later on.

Wow, talk about bait and switch in terms of pricing. Stick with the clear winners - GoDaddy and Moniker where they seem pretty stable at $10/year.

When I buy domains, I go for Dynadot because they are more reliable and they allow payment via Paypal.
