    background-image question

    Is it possible to use a semi-transparent background image for a floated element (div) ... such that the background image from the parent element shows through... for example, 50%. (I would use a repeat-y approach with a fixed width image and element.)

    I've tried creating a transparent .png image in paint shop pro... an antiquated version of a weak program... by creating completely transparent image and filling it with some off-white color at 50% opacity. It works until I save it. The saved image is a non-transparent image with washed out color.

    Would this be possible with better software?

    Just set a background-image (doesn't matter if you try and make it transparent in the editor) and set opacity:50%; or so on the parent. It will naturally inherit to the children though so you need to read this thread on how to fix it along with some interesting answers.

    Ryan,

    No answers have been posted to the forum thread ... but it is definitely intriguing (befuddling). The opacity: .x does make the image semi-transparent... however the puzzle remains as the child elements (<a> elements) are also semi-transparent. Is there a fix?

    Or...am I back to trying to make semi-transparent images?
