I came across Sphider, and was very impressed - I got on well with it, it was easy to skin and seems to work very well.

Yeah, I was looking at Sphider earlier today.

It's not the most feature rich search engine, but it is free and it's also highly customizable, too.

Do you have a working example to share?

It depends on your website. Is it database driven website? if yes, then how many different articles do you have in the database?

It does word stemming, spelling suggestions based on what is in the index, relevance ranking and all that - I liked it a lot. Customising it was indeed very easy as well.

I've used Sphider too. It works well.

I only had one concern when running the demo; there was a visible fatal error within the admin' system. Usually a big turn off for me.

That said, Sphider does seem to tick a lot of boxes for me, so thanks!
