    Question VPS wanted

    Hello,

I'm looking to purchase managed VPS (Virtual Private Server). Can anyone recommend a good company you have had an experience with? It has to support ASP and mySQL.

I would like to start with cheapest plans as my website only has about 500 visitors/day.

    Thank you in advance.

    Hello,

If you get Windows VPS server, it will be not a problem to install what you need - PHP, MySQL, ASP.NET 3.5 etc...

Liquidweb, vpsland, and cirrushosting are all good windows vps hosts. Try to google against them, you'll find many good reviews about them.

I assume that for the 500 visitors a day (moreover you need windows) VPS would be more then enough. I assume you can use large web hosting account for that on the windows server

Inmotion hosting should be able to handle the job without problems.

I use modVPS.com's managed VPS service. Reasonable capabilities, reasonable price and good support.

No need in the VPS here. Possibly you just want that because what not because of your current needs. I believe that to get started you will need shared account, unless you are planning to use that server for something else.

I think Windows Shared Hosting plan would be cheapest solutions at the most.

I think 500 visitors a day is peanut .... Most windows shared hosting plans should be capable holding your site. Even if you growing 4 to 5 times from the current size, there should not be any issue ...

I support the idea of shared account. Why overpay?

I have a shared hosting account with IXWebHosting but the reasons why I want to move to VPS are:

    1. I get too often "can't connect to mysql database" errors - I tried to contact them but the problem was not resolved. I don't know why it's happening, it's not "too many connections" error....

    2. I use session (ASP) to keep people logged in. For some reason, it doesn't work properly either, they get logged out when they are not supposed to. (timeout is set to 2 minutes but a page loads in an iframe every 30 seconds so as long as they are on my site they should not get logged out, plus the function in global.asa does not get fired on session end)

    3. IXWebHosting has a limit of 5000 e-mails/month but I need to send much more e-mails than that.

So these are the reasons why I want to move to VPS. Plus, I plan that my site will grow in about 1 year.

Maybe you need shared hosting on MS Windows in hosting company which also offer VPS or dedicated servers if you need it in future.

Perhaps you could start off with a Windows shared account and upgrade to a VPS when the need arises. Considering the number of visitors your site currently has, a shared hosting account would suffice for the time being.
