I went to Thailand a couple of years ago and had a great time, although it was pretty crazy even then. Is it safe now? I haven't seen anything on the news lately... Has the situation calmed down at all? Anyone on the ground in Thailand with first hand experience of what's going on?
I don't know that Thailand is ever safe. I had a friend almost die after food poisoning while visiting. He was almost in a coma and ended up staying an extra 3 weeks. Granted that three weeks was in a daze in a hospital bed but I would be wary of visiting.
Note this was about 10 years ago but as people say, one bad referral is the equivalent of 7 good referrals.

I think everywhere is not safe, but I think Thailand is more safer than Mexico..
Yes I agree with you. Every place is not safe in the world.
Fair enough, Mexico is certainly crossed off my list of places to go at the moment, but then so is Devon now!

Anyways, I don't think that you will find any problems if you want your vacation to be in Thailand. After all, there is not yet a case of swine flu outbreak in the country. Only terrorists are out there.
I Got my Teacher Certification in 3 months!
My girlfriend went there for 2 weeks last year. She had an amazing time and never felt in danger. I think the situation has calmed down now.

BFO is recommending all non-essential travel in the country is canceled. What they mean to say is "If something happens to you, good luck, because we can't garantee getting you help"
My brother just travelled for a year went to Australia, Fiji, Thailand and a few other countries around there. Thailand was his favorite and where he spent about a third or half of his time because of how much he liked it. He can't wait to go back.
It is better to stay right where you are now, than planning to go somewhere else.
I don't recommend you to go to Thailand in this time.

It's great place, and hope that it's safe this time for tourists.
Yeah it's a great place with lovely people, but if it's not safe right now then people shouldn't be going. It's difficult though when you have already got flights!

If you live in Thailand can you let me know what it's like there at the moment? Does it feel safe? Would you recommend people to visit if they already have bought a ticket? Or would you chuck the ticket even though it cost loads of money!?
