Is Yahoo Going Down Hill?

Just a quick question to see what everybody's thoughts are.

I have noticed considerably less site visits from Yahoo than google in recent months.

Previously the ratio was about 5-1 in google's favour. However from my recent figures thats more like 10-1 or higher.

(My sites are top in search queries both Google and Yahoo)

Just wondered if anybody else was experiencing anything similar?

Is Yahoo on the way out?

Yahoo is still on his way, but most people used Google to search on something...

No more than it has been for years I think... Haven't heard anything lately... I think they replaced some of the top kahoonas didn't they?

GMail is also used behind the scenes for the web mail provided by some ISPs

Yahoo is still there. 2nd to Google though.

I'm not sure Yahoo has ever sent any traffic to my site, thats top 3 in google!

Its interesting that the margin between seems to be growing. Google as a company wants to create a better more resourceful internet but is that acheivable if there is no competition.

I know thats not the case at the minute, but potentially in say 10 years time google may be the only recognised search engine.

I know a lot of people already think that the internet is google or google is the internet....

Always has and always will but there are always going to be users and abusers

Yes I agree with BCKD, most people already think google is the internet and how many of those have google as their home page. Google will always be no.1 but I don't think it is healthy for a business to have no competition it will only lead to complacency.

Google will always be the number one search engine but yahoo will not fail because it has alot of features like movies, answers, autos, music, etc.

Yahoo Mail is still one of the most popular webmail services (if not THE most popular), Flickr is behind only Facebook when ranking photo sharing sites in terms of user numbers, Yahoo News is still insanely popular, etc.

Yahoo is a lot more than search (though I will agree that their relevance there is slipping)

Its still the second largest search engine and has a great deal of traffic so definitely deserves your consideration.

Yahoo does seems to be going downhill, there haven't created anything new in a while, plus the're closing some old services, like geocities.

Yahoo should not be the one we look at... MSN is the one going downhill, they have yet to launch a service that stands as a market leader (non software based). At least Yahoo can claim FlickR and Y!Mail as popular clients.

Really? I get a lot of visits from Yahoo...rivaling Google...Google of course coming out on top.

Why it that people have the misinformed idea that if a business is not the best in breed that it will immediately fail? Plenty of companies are still in business even though they may not be the biggest brand names. Yahoo! may have had some issues but they have some decent services like FlickR which co-incidentally is the most popular image sharing service. Microsoft are the ones in trouble, they have yet to provide a non-software service for the web which has managed to sustain any level of penetration, if you do not believe me, just go look at all of their "offerings" and I bet you can find something more powerful and more well known for all of them.
