It may help if you gave us more information eg: are you looking for a Windows or Unix (*nix) based host sometimes referred to as LAMP? Are you going to be streaming or serving your content via browser/downloads? How much disk space & bandwidth you need? Are you looking for a host with a Content Management System (CMS)?

Linux hosts are usually cheaper that Windows ones. Do you have any other requirements? My suggestion would be to go with a provider that would pay attention on your project, which means to provide more personalized customer support.

you are going to need some bandwidth, plus a reasonably strong VPS or Dedicated server. {snip}

What are your bandwith and other requirements?
Also what is "cheap" for you? More info needed to help you make a good choice![]()

Steven,
As you grow into VPS and dedicated servers, you will find that they strictly limit the memory (RAM), monthly traffic and storage space while providing you FAR better services. It seems to be a matter of where you have your priorities.
I've gotten around this (so far) by hosting my websites on a VPS account but link my clients videos and mp3s off a shared account on another server (one advertising "unlimited" storage and traffic). If I don't mention that the shared account's really limited by CPU cycles, Dan (ldcdc) will be along to smack my hand but this has yet to rear its ugly head despite 300Mb (each) video files.
IMHO, all you need is a shared account for a single website with a lot of large video files UNTIL you start to have problems; reseller won't change this as they are just fancier shared accounts; VPS suffers from severe traffic limits (and management costs) and dedicated has a tremendous expense factor coupled with traffic and storage limits (and management costs). Start low and expand upward as you need.

DK

I've been using Hostgator's shared hosting for a number of years now. It is good for my needs, but if you have a busy site, $8 shared hosting would not really be the way to go.
For a movies site, a dedicated server would seem appropriate. fdcservers.net specializes in unmetered servers, which may be of good value for a site like yours.
Careful with copyright. No self respecting host will accept illegal content on its servers. One report may be all it takes to terminate your account.
Static files aren't likely to cause issues too early in the game. The major issue these days is that "unlimited" hosts tend to be switching to new terms of service that effectively ban bandwidth heavy websites from their shared hosting. This may result in an unexpected suspension. Glad to hear that the VPS/high-end shared hosting + cheap but beefy shared hosting combination still works its magic for you though, David.Dan (ldcdc) will be along to smack my hand but this has yet to rear its ugly head despite 300Mb (each) video files.![]()

You must try to get a VPS or dedicated server.
Are you going to host the movies on your hosting ?
If you are just linking them up, a shared hosting can do better.
Also check host's terms of use, and see if they allow movie download and movie linking on their servers. Also suggest asking some decent pre-sale questions before you order, just to make sure they offer what you need.

I would agree with Dan that you should be going for a Dedicated server for your movie's website. Also, FDCServers should be a host you should be considering since they provide ample amount of bandwidth at relative lower costs.
Good luck!

Id go for a dedicated linux
online movie site has a huge traffic and huge number of connections at one time. So you need a Dedicated Server, at least the Virtual Dedicated Server.
