    Lightbulb picture help required

    Hi

Flawless said that he could do me some nice moving buttons in perl that I could easily edit to make a fun menu for my new site.

However, that was a few weeks ago and flawless seams a bit busy, so i was wondering if anyone else could help me make some fun button for my plain text link menu on www.linux-problems.com

    Thanks

    Mark

This thread should really be in dhtml/Javascript,
If a moderator would like to move it there.

I'll knock up an idea of what i was going to do -
if i get time - and someone can see if they've got
    any better ideas.

    NO flash responses PLEASE -

Are you sure you want moving buttons? As a general rule moving element on web sites are a bad thing - they distract people from the real "content" on the page. Moving navigation elements are an especially bad idea, although tollover effects can be OK if done well.

    Cool

No i dont want the buttons to move around whilst people are looking at the page, but everytime it refreshes. This would give people an interesting challange to find things and will let them explore more of the site by accident

Sounds like a usability / navigational nightmare to me! You'd better have some pretty determined / passionate visitors, because I know that anyone with a short attention span (like myself) would surf on out of there in a second if the navigation started changing places and making me guess which option I should chose. On a "high functionality" site like a forum this is a particularly bad idea.

That said, the easiest way to provide random images is with a pre-bulit random images script. Try "Random Image" from this page:

There must be a better idea for functional yet interactive and exciting buttons.

If someone comes up with an imaginative enough idea i'll put my head to it and pull it off and post the result here.
