    Hi all,
    i m webmaster of texsurat.com and i m facing a small problem. i need to have database in MySQL. now my space provide is providing me only one database. now when i asked for second database he is telling me to have another ip add. and then only he can create the database. he is running linux with apache.now i dont think this should be the case. i m not expert in my sql installation of configuration. so any my sql expert can plz tell me is it necessary to have another ip for the my sql database to be accessed by me.

    No it should not be.

    Your provider should be able to set up any number of users and/or databases for you even if you only have one IP address.


    Sounds like they are either a lazy bunch or not too clever...

    I second this. I only have 1 ip for my site and I have 5 databases setup. If you are using PHP on your server, download MySQLadmin and just add the DB yourself.

    In all likely hood if he used phpMyAdmin he would not be able to add the database himself as if the ISP has got a clue to what they are doing then they would not have given normal users permission to create databases.

    You can have as many MySQL databases as you like, it has nothing to do with IP addresses, it sounds like they are trying to make more money out of you by selling you another hosting package.
