Hosting Review Site or Top 3 Hosting Co. for shared hosting

    Hi All,

I'm trying to find at least three web hosting companies to choose from to host a Joomla websites on a shared server. Would consider dedicated if the deal was right. I have a friend of mine who wants to create a church website, and is looking for the best deal. I use Netfirms which I have never had an issue with, but I didn't want to be bias, and would like give him other options to choose from.

Is there a good WebHosting Review site, I could check out, or maybe someone could recommend their top three. I reading threw the forums here and I noticed there are not that many complaints with Hostgator. Again, I just want to see if there was anything out there better.

    Thanks!

    Matt, Indiana

I run a site which collects user reviews of web hosts, and those users have rated as their top three Site5, Blue Host and Host Gator. That's among about 200 reviews of about 40 different hosts.

I use bluehost for a couple of small small sites, never had an issue, but then again, i've never tried to tax the account. it's mostly for learning.

Don't go with overselers that say they offer "unlimited space". I can byte "unlimited" for data transfer, but not for disk space. As far as for the top host websites, forget about them. They do not offer consumer reviews, just ads. Of course this does not mean that web hosts listed there aren't OK.

i'd suggest hostgator, iweb, hostway, and doteasy. They are all very good web hosts.

I will agree with you..as this host will restrict your site on CPU usage..

Whether people like it or not, the CPU usage will still be restricted, in any shared hosting environment. You pay $5-10, expect, that much service and computer resources available to you. That's what it usually boils down to.

With shared hosting a lot is going to depend on the accounts that you are sharing the server with regardless of which provider you get the hosting from.

There are many. You can find them by a search in hosting forums' offer sections.
Also I will suggest you to avoid top hosting review sites. The listed top hosts may not be the best in the industry.

These hosts stand out when you do the math. Hosts that do not oversell generally price their plans between $0.25 - $0.75/GB depending upon the ancillary services they offer. Hosts that oversell will be priced below $0.25/GB sometimes below $0.01/GB. Eg: 1000MB (1TB) disk space and 1000 (1TB) of transfer (bandwidth) for $7.99/month That would equal $0.00799/GB you are likely to be unhappy with this type of host, their support, service and/or their lack of support/service. Especially if your site is dynamic and/or relied upon for your livelihood.

In the end you often get what you pay for...

As far as I know joomla "likes" web host with quick connection to the DB. So you can involve that for youir search. For the web hosting solutions which separate DB and web hosting accounts for the different servers not for joomla
