Here are instructions for installing PHP 4.0 as a plug-in for Sambar Server. I recommend this server to anyone experiencing difficulty and/or frustration with PWS. It's much more secure and powerful and (in my opinion) easier to configure.
- Download and install PHP 4.0.0 from http://www.php.net/ as described in my article. Basically this just involves extracting the PHP 4.0 Win32 distribution ZIP file to a directory on your hard drive, editing php.ini-optimized as described in my article, and copying it to php.ini in your Windows directory (C:\WINDOWS).
- Download the latest release version of Sambar Server (as of this writing, version 4.3) from http://www.sambar.com/ .
- Install and configure Sambar Server as per the "Installation" and "Configuration" sections of the server documentation at http://www.sambar.com/. Don't forget to set an administrator password.
- With your server running, load the Sambar Server administration screen:
http://localhost/session/adminlogin?...dmin/index.stm
Enter your admin username and password when prompted. - Click on the "Document, CGI, WinCGI & ISAPI Mappings". Scroll down to the "ISAPI Extension Associations" section. Type "*.php" (without the quotes) into the top-left text entry field. Type "C:\PHP\php4isapi.dll" (without the quotes, and with the path to which you extracted the PHP 4.0.0 ZIP file if it is not "C:\PHP"). Click "Update Configuration".
- Back on the main administration screen, click on "Server Configuration". Scroll down to "Default Page". "index.htm" and "index.html" should already be listed. Add "index.php" to the list. Scroll to the bottom, and click "Update Server Configuration".
- Back on the main administration screen, click "Restart Server". After about 30 seconds or so, the server will restart with full PHP support.
That's it!

I know what you mean, the MySQL site is a nightmare to find download on now, I had trouble finding the newest version to keep me in check with my server setup. Here goes:
Latest Beta (3.23.22) I couldn't find any of the stable releases in Binary format for windows, but never mind because the Beta versions are pretty stable and are even good enough for production systems (Well at least 3.23.21 is).
BTW does anyone know where the MySQL logos have gone? They seem to have disappeared from the site altogether.

I've got Sambar and PHP running just fine. I'm trying to install mySQL now, so that I can go through Kevin's tutorial. But, I can not seem to find the right mySQL file to download anywhere on the mySQL website.
Does anyone know the URL?
(I'm installing on WIN NT4)
Thanks a lot.

For a hassle free installation of Apache, Perl, PHP and MySQL (which also includes Webmin and phpMyAdmin) download the Nusphere distribution (for Win or Linux) from www.nusphere.com You run the instal from a html page in your web browser.
