    Buying of Coffee

    Hi All,

Just wanting to pose a question about who pays for what. I meet with clients at coffee shops alot, the question I always have is who pays. Do I pay the bill, do they or do we split it. Whats the general rule of thumb here??

    Thanks
    Andrew

Well if they are going to be your customer, it makes sense to pay for the coffee. It seems pointless to look like a cheapscate in front of any potential clients if you can just buy the coffee and get their business in your direction

I would pay the bill, it's only coffee and it's written off as a business expense anyway.

I would pay for the bill if it was my client or a potential client

I think you should pay if you call that person here client and he should pay if he calls you. Simple as that. But think twice if he is your client.

Acceptable business protocol is that the individual who invited pays. Especially if it is your boss.

My clients never pay for food, drinks, coffee, golf or whatever else it takes to get the deal

As a rule of thumb if I instigate the meeting I'll pay for it, otherwise if the client has instigated the meeting I'd say they are "hosting your visit" so they should pay.

There many kinds of coffee to choose, when buying you just need to drop by in a nice coffee shop to be able to experience the nicest coffee in town.

i think it is just right that you will be the one to pay coffee because they are your clients you need to impress them and treat them nice just by treating a cup of coffee.
