Do I need UK based hostings for UK and Australian based hosting for Australia?

hi, I am trying to target both Australia and UK with one of my websites. The website is new but coming through in main google rankings but not in UK or Australia- the ones I want!

Do I need to get UK hosting (and a UK domain) to appear in UK rankings and vice versa for Australia?

My understanding is that either hosting in a country OR having a domain belonging to a country will get you higher in the rankings for that country.

I would take your hosting to where the majority of your customer base is likely to be, by doing this you will automatically reduce the distance and route the traffic has to date which may give your website a slight performance increase for those users.

I have to agree with all of the above posts, speed potentially and helping the rankings (not 100% sure on that though).

If budget is an issue, then look for East/West coast providers in the US

    Good luck.

There is a good point since US hosting prices are comparatively less compared to other countries.

I think with Australian hosting and/or domains there might be restritctions on who can get them.

There are restrictions on getting Australian domains but I don't think there are any restrictions on getting Australian based hosting.

With domains you need to be an Australian resident or citizen to get a .name.au domain and you need to be an Australian registered business to get a .com.au or .net.au and the other .au domains have similar restrictions to the group within Australia that the particular domains are targetted at.

Thanks for tips, I've looked in to the Australian domains and it seems like you need to not only be an Australian registered business but you can only register te domain relating to your business name! Hosting should be fine, but looks much more expensive than US!
