    Accessing SQLite Console

    Good day everyone. I'm learning ROR via Simply Rails2 on Vista32. Can I get your help...

    On page 102 of the book it says to invoke the SQLite console with the following command in the application directory:
    $ sqlite3 db/development.sqlite3

    So, I pulled up a command window (start>'cmd'~), navigated to c:\instantrails\rails_apps\ and tried the command with an error message. I tried something similar from IRB with another error message. When I look at the Instant Rails Control Panel, it shows MySQL and Apache running but not showing SQLite. What am I missing to get the SQLite running?

    1. Am I using the wrong tool - cmd?

    2. is my process wrong?

    3. how do I know that right tool (cmd) and process as laid out above?

    Thank you

    Hi jacksonstout, welcome to the forums,

    I hope it's this easy.

    The "$" is the CLI prompt for Unix. You don't type it in Windows. So everywhere you see something in the book like
    $ sqlite3 db/development.sqlite3
    for you and your console it's
    .....shovell> sqlite3 db/development.sqlite3

    Thanks for the input. I made sure that I was not using the $ and still got the following error message:

    'sqlite3' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

    Do you know how I can tell if SQLite is even installed? Thank you again.
