Questions on Free Webhosting

New guy here- I'm looking for a few answers.
I have been searching for some free webhosting, and although I know I can trust Geocities and angelfire (It's clear how they compensate for free web space,) I need more space and bandwidth than that.
What I plan is quite temporary; just until I can get the traffic to pay for the costs of webhosting.

I have been looking at atbhost, but their terms concern me. 1 gig of storage, 10 gigs of transfers per month, SQL servers and no ads nor monthly fee? Having a look through their terms of service, the only thing questionable I saw was this:

ATBHost reserves the right to amend any or all of the above policies, guidelines and disclaimer without notification. We also retain the right to increase any pricing and make changes to our account plans without notification.

Would this explain how they stay in business?

"Welcome to our free webhosting! Enjoy your stay. Oh, and you owe us $99 because we just happened to change the rates as you joined, and we charge by the minute now. Cheerio!"


If not, how do they justify ad-free and charge-free webhosting?

That's just their package to get you in. They have others, where they may stand a chance to make some profit. Then again, bankruptcy is always an eventual alternative.

I would understand if it were that, but there are quite a few that advertise even unlimited storage and traffic...
That seems a bit far-fetched to me, especially when I don't see plans to upgrade to.

Well first thing there is no such thing as unlimmited. Its a marketing Gemic. Good luck I'd start with frihost.com to be honest its one of the only free hosts I trust and I was a customer awhile ago before I started my own host.

They normally limit you in some way or one day may decided to put ads on your page also the servers are normally rubbish and over packed.

Free web hosting that is separated class of they web host and believe me free web hosting providers do know how to get profit

Personally myself I'd just stay away from free hosting and get some sort of paid hosting. I know people say they can not afford hosting but these days hosting is very reasonable. Doesn't cost anymore than if you buy 3 coffee's a month

Well, you can search at google for free webhosts list.
There are also many post to host services available.
Styleearn , smokyhost, you can look for.

In most cases the free hosting providers make way more money from the "free" hosting they give away than from their paid hosting. They are just taking advantage of those who don't know how much cheaper paid hosting can be compared to "free" hosting. For example a "free" hosting accounbt may put $1100 in the providers pocket from the advertising they place on your pages. A $100 paid account therefore puts $1000 less in their pocket than the free account does.

I suppose that free web hosting that is separate kind of the web hosting service and that has own rules and laws. I'm sure that the main idea that is erning from ads. I do not believe that many people in case of their satisfaction will switch from free to the paid web hosting

i am curently hosted at atbhost i get 500 page errors all the time, they say there are some server problems, hope they fix them otherwise i will have to look for another hosting.

I think it is quite hard to find a reliable free host
I have tried out atbhost and i was not really happy with them, i have been using them for some of my small projects, i think 110mb is better.
