    Smile virtual dedicated server questions

What is the difference between virtual dedicated server and a dedicated server?

I know that a dedicated server means you have the physical computer as your server whileas virtual dedicated server means that they separate the physical computer into various parts and you have control over one of those separated parts.

But my question is mainly on the functionality of a virtual dedicated server and a dedicated server.

What can you do on a dedicated server that you can't do on a virtual dedicated server?

A virtual dedicated server is a physical server that is partitioned into several virtual servers. You share the hardware resources such as the cpu and ram with a few other users. But you get your own file system, OS and applications, just like a dedicated server.

The dedicated server, you will have the server to yourself, but normally you might not have full root access.

For VPS, you will have virtual servers, even though you are having only a part of the server as a whole, you will not find it any different from a normal server, and you will have full root access.

Mostly, it's the same. But when running special software, it might require specified virtualizing software, or a real dedicated server.

in terms of functionality, it's going to depend on what type of box the vps is on, as well as, what type of box you get for a dedi. Each has it's own unique advantages.

    Good luck on your search.

In addition to the above, in a virtual server, you might not be able to make changes to the server kernel configurations as needed.

I believe that for you as for the end used which are looking for the some kind of the independence and stability. If you compare the same config of the VPS and dedicated server you should understand that VPS is on the more powerful server and so the server is more modern etc. + price difference. As rule VPS appear less expensive then dedicated server
