That's a bunch of crap from Roberto Carlos.

He says that, but when he sees an *expert* in diving like Pippo Inzaghi diving near him he'll start accusing him of cheating bla bla bla and start blaming the ref, etc. Once again pathetic!

I still can't forgive the mexican referee who clearly favored Uruguay against France.

It's incredible to see that he goes the Red Card way for Henry, and then does NOTHING when Silva and some other Uruguayan go target the French players' legs instead of the ball for 5 minutes until the end of first half.
It's even annoying when you see the same referee ask for a Goal kick when he's 30 meters away from the action and his side referees tell him it's a Corner kick... on several occasions !

I liked the Argentina vs England game, lots of fair play and the greatest referee there. Light years past from the crappiness of yesterday's France vs Uruguay game.

    Boys and girls of England.

    WHAT A PERFORMANCE

For 70 minutes we played Argentina off the park. They were made to look decidedly average.

    Veron - Pants
    Batistuta - Pants
    Ortega - Pants
    Simeone - Who??

If we play like that for the rest of the tournement, we can win it. But we won't.

It was a good performance by England overall. Was impressed with the midfield especially. After seeing the penalty in slow-mo and magnified, you'd have to say that Michael Owen took a bit of a dive. I'm not blaming him though. Just think that video replays should be used in those situations. Fair play to them though.

Our game is up tomorrow now. Have to beat the Saudi's by two clear goals, but I reckon we'll do it. Have to remain positive and we've created a lot of chances so far in the tournament. Here's hoping for more luck of the irish.

Michael Owen dive - Never before have I heard such rubbish!!!!!!!

Fell over Pochettina's (sp??) leg, definately, but dive. How dare you

I hope the Irish win tomorrow too. Although you've never scored more than 1 goal in a world cup finals match. I also hope Cameroon dump the German's out. Get the good teams out asap!!

That match ended 1-1, what a shame. I'm right here, BTW, but I just didn't notice this thread until now. As it stands, we're tied at the top of group D, and Poland should be an easy win.

It was my biggest fear if we got France , mind you, the way they played in the World Cup it wouldn't have been that bad , Hope Ireland win later

I can't believe I took the day off to watch England V Nigeria, that match was dire as Mr Hansen would say. If we (England) don't learn to start passing soon then the second round will be as far as we get.

You must have been watching a different match to me because I saw an England team who were confident and relaxed on the ball, stroking it around the park quite nicely. Our only problem was poor crossing and a sudden inability to hit the target from Owen, Beckham and Sheringham.

When are people going to wake up to the fact that England aren't a bad side (nor are we particularly good) and accept that our performances swing from below average to above average from time to time. A side who are only above average can win the World Cup (look at Italy in 1982, Germany in 1990 or France in 1998).

And in the case of Argentina in 1986, a slightly below average side can win it.

    Providing they've got Maradona

The only passing around we did was sideways like we often do, we were hardly confident, a confident team creates chances we had three chances all match (scholes shot, owen nearly getting heskeys cross and sheringhams shot ater it came off Owens knee) and of those chances only one was on target. We are not a good passing side as shown by our reliance on the long ball game and the fact we create so few chances from open play.

That was so far from stroking it about it's not funny, we defended well particularly Rio, but we definetely did not strole it about. For stroking it about see Brazil, Spain, France, Argentina, Italy etc (I know France and Argentina are out, but the fact remains over the last few years they have consistantly played beautiful that England can only dream of.

I accept we are not the best team in the world particulary with only a semi-fit Beckham and no Gerrard, however I would expect us to be able to control possesion against most teams, which we have very rarely done in the last three years. How you can say France 1998 were only average is beyond me. France had Desailly, Blanc, Thuram, Henry, Pires, Trezuget, Lizaruzua and Zidane all of which would have walked into most teams in 1998 or even now.

I think this must be one of the most open world cup's for years. There are no weak teams anymore.

I don't think there are any outstanding teams in it. I think the winners will be either Italy, Spain, Brazil or dare I say it England.
