    Irish WC perspective:

Nearly had a heart attack when I heard this morning that our star player Roy Keane had dropped out of the squad only to rejoin them again a few hours later.

He said he was leaving for "personal reasons" but had had an argument with goalkeeper coach Packie Bonner over the fact that outfield players had to go in goal for a 5 a side match while the goalies rested. After a phone call to his home town of Cork, Keane changed his mind and is now staying. THANK GOD!! He's the best player we have and he's an amazing player who will shine on the big stage. More info here

We've also been helped by the fact that two of our group opponents are having trouble. Cameroon went missing for a few days and have now turned up in Paris. They are refusing to fly out though in a dispute over pay. Germany have also been hit by a spate of injuries to crucial players just over a week before the first games.

The report I heard was that the goalkeepers were training on their own with Pat Bonner. If that's the case maybe Mr.Keane should learn some respect. No one person is bigger than the team.

which teams do you think will go into the semi finals this year?
I'm not sure if these teams will meet earlier, but I'm going for the big 4: Italy, France, Argentina and Brazil.

The goalkeepers had been on a 40 minute session before the rest of the squad arrived. I'd say his family in Cork told him to cop on and get back in the squad!!

Keane is an awesome player, who gives 100%. Sadly, he also feels this lets him say anything he wants. Pity.

    Semi-finals:
    Argentina, France, Italy, Spain
But I hope England make it that far, and Spain tend to stumble in tournaments despite having exceptional players.

Sadly (if we qualify) we will meet France in round 2. The winners of our group (probably Argentina) meet the runners up of France's group, and vice versa. DOH!

I think we can win our group - I hope we can win our group, 'cos I expect France to mash us up if we don't!
But yeah, I didn't take that into account in my answer.

We (England) would have more chance if our midfield weren't on crutches! I heard today that Danny Murphy (brought in due to Gerrards injury) has picked up some kinda injury now. Soon we'll be left only with Scholes! I'm expecting a call from the FA to see if I'm available soon

If your an England fan, have you signed the Flag? My coordinates are 18 x 68!

I can't believe the news. Its a horrendous day for Irish football. He was and is our best player but as you said it looks like the Nigeria game was his last.

This was as much to do with the FAI's attitude towards the players as it was anything else. His timing is terrible however.

That interview is interesting. He's not one to mince his words, eh? It's a shame for Ireland and a shame for the World Cup. He is the kind of player who really makes a difference. I feel most sorry for the manager and the remaining team members. How are they going to feel when perhaps their best player leaves and not through injury?

Bring it on man. Keano may be gone but the Irish are still there with a chance. Damien Duff is gonna torment your defense.

I'm not sure about that. One of your best players, Diesler (sp?) is out. But then you've still got Ballack I suppose.

I think you should both watch out for Cameroon. They can beat anybody on their day. Mboma is a class striker.

When ever he's not playing for Sunderland

I fancy Italy to go all the way this time -- they've got one of the easyest route to the final (all be it past Spain or Portugal in the Semi's) and after they were just robbed by France at Euro 2000 (even if it was a gooner who added extra time) -- more than enough inspiration if they meet them again in the final.

Pele would be pants in the Sunderland site

That free kick game on robertobaggio.com is cool.

I'm going for Italy too. With the likes of Toldo, Maldini, Del Pieiro, Vieri and Totti they've got quality all through the team. Also, as I've already mentioned somewhere, Italian grandparents.

Just thought I would tell you what is really happening with Roy Keane.

Keane left just as the dead line had passed to bring in a new squad memeber, no matter how spoilt you think he is one thing is for sure, he isnt stupid.

Its all a ploy, our opponents will think great Keane is out and lo and behold he will be named in the team!

What happens ? Other team panics of course!

    We win the world cup
    Back Again
