I'm a designer, not a programmer....is there a canned database package that will let me create an auto dealership website? One that will let me control the templates, but allow the dealership to add/delete it's listings by itself? It should also allow them to upload their photo files, hopefully sizing and optimizing them on the fly. Any ideas? Thanks!

PS. I've already looked over the MySQL tutorial, very nice, but over my head and I need to get something going ASAP.

    Joseph,

Unfortunately, this sounds like a pretty specialised application. If you're not willing to become a Web programmer, you might have to hire one.

Soeaking from a developer's point of view, Canned Database programs don't usually work unless you have a very general business model. We are currently converting to a "canned database" application and with required modifications and system upgrades the bill is going to be a good $5 million more than the actual cost of the application. Mind you this is for a large enterprise wide solution but the premise is the same.

I've done a couple Autodealer sites with their entire inventory updated weekly and its not really something you can "Can" unfortunately. Because it seems every dealer wants it done differently. And the picture thing is always a problem too. One dealer wants the pictures named using the last 8 digits of the VIN, the other just wants standard pictures for the new vehicles. The databases I've done for separate dealerships are nothing alike, there is just too much customizing.

Actually, I found something that I think might work. I'll have to check into it further, but looks good so far.....
