I am using a wordpress template. Before the visitors reach my blog, I would like them to see a landing page. The landing page would be a full screen image with the title of our site and at the bottom of the screen, photography credits. When the visitors reach the landing page and click on the title or the image, they will be redirected to the blog. How do I create such a landing page please?
An example of the lading page I am looking for would be 'creativetime.org'
If so I would recommend creating your site in a program such as photoshop, and then using the slice tool and slice your images out and then convert them into a HTML document.
You can convert them easily by using programs such as dreamweaver, frontpage, or even standard Notepad (if you are familiar with html)
Thanks a lot for your reply .... unfortunately I only have basic HTML/CSS knowledge ... so I think I will have to drop the landing page option for now. Thanks again.
Something to think about is, what benefit will this page actually bring to your users? It will add an extra step before the user gets to your blog and you will lose some customers who don't click through (which I'm guessing that is your goal).
If the landing page doesn't add anything but to look pretty, it might not be a good idea.
Landing pages or splash screens are generally pointless as they rarely provide any information which is of benefit to the end user and therefore should be avoided to reduce the amount of clicks required to reach content.
Agreed with AlexDawson, splash screen may look good to the owners but can be a nuisance to most visitors. If splash screen is a hit, i must Google front page will have a splash screen also.
I agree with alex also. The more clicks a person needs to actually get to your site the worse. Can't this info just be put on the first page of your blog?
Great point everyone, these are very very nice thoughts, about landing pages. I am sure that alot of other people will gain alot of information from this thread.
