No web hosting company will honour unlimited space and bandwidth. Read the terms and conditions (fine print). If a hard drive is 100 gb, how can you have 200 gb storage?

Simply put the question; I want to upload 500 gb of photos for backup purposes.

    Then what unlimited diskspace means?

Nothing other than a marketing gimmick. They will restrict you by CPU or RAM usage. Nobody can give you unlimited space since hard disk space is limited.

    Hi,

Nothing is unlimited, if you take a look at their Terms and Conditions you'll find a couple of interesting bits:
We reserve the right, in our sole discretion, to discontinue service to any customer with a website or other hosted data that takes up more than 10% of the server resources and/or 10% of the server's CPU.
So *in theory* they could terminate your account for using more than 10% of the disk space in the server.

    Also:
The use of more than 50,000 inodes on any shared account may potentially result in suspension
An inode is what Linux uses to track files/folders, every file/folder uses at least 1 inode - So you're limited right away in what space you can use, as most website files are going to be small HTML files etc.

It's always worth reading the Terms of Service to see what you're actually getting.

    Thanks,

Like what has been said above, nothing is unlimited. And in terms of web hosting, you really do get what you pay for. Personally I think hosts that use the unlimited system should be perused legally for false advertising and trying to get customers under false pretences.

Start a hosting company. No hosting company can afford these features, if they simply they'll drop out, can't run so cheap.

    I wholeheartedly agree.

I would be interested in hearing from the original poster, whether he's subsequently confirmed our advice.

Without knowing the particular host in question, they may provide a decent service albeit not as advertised. As Alex has already said, "You get what you pay for".

It is a marketing gimmick to attract new customers and is simply not possible. As for review; http://www.webhostingreviews.com/just-host-reviews.htm, http://www.webhostingstuff.com/review/JustHost.html, and http://webhostinggeeks.com/user-revi...php?item_id=29 should help you out.

Try hostmonster - mine was cheap at only $4.50 per month most things unlimited.

I also found that going through a referal system was sometimes cheaper than direct

Most web hosting providers that offer "unlimited" space also stipulate that you can only use it for web hosting and that storing anything there that is not a part of your web site will be grounds for termination. If you are actually looking for somewhere to backup your own data to then a web hosting account is not what you need.
