    Techy Treasures #5: CSS Counters in Internet Explorer

    Concerning, Techy Treasures #5: Fudging CSS Counters in Internet Explorer.

    I would have liked to post my replay into the blog, however, something is very screwy with the spam protection system blocking me every time.

    I wanted to point out the article mentions that IE 8 does not support counters while in fact it does. The reason for why the test case supplied doesn't work in IE 8 is because of the CSS3 ::brefore ::before. If one were to change it to :before it will function in IE 8.

    HTML Code:
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd">
    <html>
        <head>
            <title>CSS Counters in Internet Explorer</title>
            <style type="text/css">
                #css-counters-test, #css-counters-test li { list-style-type:none; }
                #css-counters-test { counter-reset:step; }
                #css-counters-test li:before { color:green;font-weight:bold;counter-increment:step;content:counter(step) ": "; }
                html, body { font:normal normal normal 100&#37; sans-serif; }
                li { margin-bottom:5px; }
            </style>
        </head>
        <body>
            <ol id="css-counters-test">
                <li>step one</li>
                <li>step two</li>
                <li>step three</li>
                <li>step four</li>
                <li>step five</li>
                <li>step six</li>
            </ol>
        </body>
    </html>
    Edit: generated content only works on :before and :after from what I've tested. IE8 Standards mode.

    Don't see any mention of "brefore". Pretty neat...

    Yes, ta for that. I don't have access to IE8 yet, so I couldn't check for myself.

    Oh I've been logged in, I've tried not logging in and so fourth. Only one time was I able to get past the spam blocker by not being logged in. However that message was later removed for unknown reasons.

    I just don't know...
