I'm using modVPS for my hosting. The price is $44.50/mo and the service is great! Look for SariJ and others from HostingZoom in this forum and you'll get a taste of their knowledge.

Look around, read reviews and research well. Things to keep in mind when picking a host is to not always go for the biggest bargain. Often times the price is misleading due to overselling. That can go for both Shared and VPS hosts.

I Think you have a good budget. So as larrysw said you should do the self research. That is the best thing to find your best host. You may get some recommendations here, even then you must do the research by finding reliable reviews on them. If you browse through some reputed hosting forums including sitepoint you can find out a number of reliable providers. Best of luck.
