How can you start a forum in a Wordpress blog?

Without having to start use dedicated forum software. I know this feature is now posisble, but does it provide for a good forum.

How easy is it for people to register?

I was going to have some set up a forum using dedictated forum software on an independent domain, but the more I think about it, I feel it would better to create a forum that is an extension to my blog which is 3 years old and gets decent rankings. The forum content will obviosuly ramnk faster being part of an established site than on a brand new domina.

Can anyone tell me which particular plugin I need to install to add a forum to my blog.

You could also just install the forum as a subdomain, like sitepoint does, this way you can take advantages of all the great features that something like vbulliten can offer, without having to rely on a piece mail wordpress plugin...

There's a free forum program out there that integrates into WP very nicely (I believe it is a WP product), but its name escapes me at the moment. Anyone remember?

Well, I wish I can help you, but I am just a newbie when it comes to web designing. But your site will be a great help to me, because I can also get information from other blogger. Thank you.

I think you are referring to bbpress. I just installed it, but haven't had the time to figure out how to customize it. It can stand alone, or be integrated into wordpress.

I used Simple Forum with WordPress before. It integrated seamlessly. Unfortunately, when I got hacked, the whole of my database became a complete mess. I think it is good to have WordPress and the Forum software in separate directories and simply bring them together at the homepage.

    Thanks Poiesis01 for the link.
In fact that's exactly what I needed.

I have a Site where I wanted to start a forum, but, I was holding out mainly
because i don't have much experience managing a forum.

This will be a perfect way to start it.
    Thanks again
