    Javascript ,, Search Engine

hello, here is a question for you:

i want to add a javascript search engine that searches just the site that i am adding it to.

but i would like it to go to the actual page instead of a results page.

    for example:
i type in the word "paint", and it takes me to the "paint" page.

    any ideas?

    thanks

Are you talking about server side JavaScript (for example using ASP) or client side JavaScript (scripst embedded in the HTML) ?

I'll assume you mean client side JavaScript. This is not at all suited to building search engines as you have to send an entire search index as part of the code, which makes for a very large file to transfer to the user's browser. It is possible though - take a look at this:

    http://www.dynamic-core.net/projects/xsearch/index.php

The behaviour you describe (going straight to the page) sounds very much like Googl'e "I'm Feeling Lucky" feature. This works by redirecting you to the first search result in the list. It would not be hard at all to alter a javascript search engine to do this.
