really want to learn (laptop suggestion)

I really like Ruby and want to learn it. Should I get http://store.apple.com/us/configure/...mco=MzE2NjMyOA to make it as eas as possible?

What does learning Ruby have to do with a MacBook laptop (with the associated $500 Apple tax)?

You do not need to upgrade your computer to edit text, it can definitely handle it. And there are plenty of editors with Ruby syntax highlighting available for all platforms.

What text editor do you use to write code now? See if it has a Ruby plugin to add syntax highlighting for that language.

I would check out E-TextEditor. It is supposed to be similar to Textmate, but for Windows. I really like it so far.

My Ruby install (the one-click installer) came with SciTE http://www.scintilla.org/
I have had no problems with it and I like it so far.
