Question Pop-up/under only if surfer clicks the back button?

We are paying an enormous amount for traffic from PPCSEs and, of course, a significant number of people don't buy anything from us but just click the back button to return to Overture or wherever.

Therefore I thought it might be a good idea to have a second 'bite of the cherry' by trying to lure them with some other service only if they click the back button. We don't want to present the pop-up/under to a surfer who chooses to go deeper into our site.

I was wondering if anybody knew how we could do this please? Thank you in advance for your help

P.S. I don't want this to become a thread discussing the 'morality' of such a script. The likes of Overture are raking in millions of dollars by deceptively making their results out to be bona fide search listings when they are nothing of the sort.

use the window.onunload event to trigger and event.
use the event details to find out if it's a history.back()... msdn.microsoft.com/library should be able to help you with the events property section.

window.event.srcElement might do it - but i'm not sure, since the back button is, obviously, outside the domain of the dom.

the event.keyCode might supply you it - but i doubt it.

Isn't there a function for when you leave the site? I know I've seen it before.
