    Protecting Images

I'm looking for some teqniques to protect images against right click and other copying teqniques.

I know people may be offended if they are unable to copy images but that's another issue that I am not trying to discuss here.

I'm just looking for the teqniques commonly used to protect images.

    Thanks.

You can't protect your images, and anything you may try to do to defend thgem will only serve to irritate your legitimate visitors. If you don't want your images stolen don't put them on the web. Every image protection systme I have ever seen used on a web site can be bypassed by hitting the "Print Screen" button on my keyboard and pasting a screenshot in to an image program. Anyone who is determined to steal your images will know this, so disabling right mouse buttons and other similar techniques will not deter any image thieves with the slightest bit of technical knowledge. The trade off in functionality for normal site visitors is simply not worth it.

Remember that any images you create are protected by copyright laws, and if someone else steals them and starts using them you can always get a lawyer to send them a scary letter. This is the best and most realistic protection you can provide.

Skunk is pretty close on this one. I don't know about the whole lawyer part, but...

sstaubin01--Is your site viewable to people browsing the Web? Oh, it is, you say? Then abandon all hope of protecting images and content. This is the World Wide Web, a hyperlinkable, dynamic medium. Welcome to it.

Putting in no-right-click scripts is nothing more than a complete waste of your time and effort. No matter what you do you can always get around them. As someone else mentioned you are also likely annoy your nice visitors. The best way is to have a clear copyright notice, watermark your images, and either officially copyright your stuff with the government or mail yourself your work (to help prove ownership).
