what is managed vps include?
I see some hosts provide fully managed VPS. If that's the case, what does that mean exactly? Does it mean the host manages updates and backups and that kind thing? what other maintenance does full managed VPS can provide besides updates and backups?
This maybe a dumb question but I want to know. thanks in advance

It varies from host to host, so you'll need to read up on each one and contact them if what management includes isn't clear.

For managed vps, it's up to provider to decide what to cover, generally though, managed vps should mean:
- Software Management: troubleshooting of all issues with included software
- Proactive Monitoring + updates
- Security/Optimization
- Hardware Management
- Network Management
Unmanaged vps means provider only supports hardware and network
You might want to contact each provider directly for their definition of vps management.

I would like to add data backup into that list. We have some customers from others, just because they lost data once with their "managed vps vendor" but did not backup their data.
Of course, someone will say data is important for customer, and they should have their own backup. But working as a fully managed vendor, you should backup data for your customers frequently, and encourage them to have their own backup too.Clustered CloudLinux Hosting | WordPress Hosting |

For me, a fully managed vps would mean an environment that would work exactly as a shared hosting account - the provider would take care of the server and I would take care of my website.

As for companies that specialise in fully managed and proactive vps: Liquidweb, Wiredtree, Futurehosting (ala carte addon), ModVPS, BuyAVPS (addon) etc. A google search can reveal more companies:

As for backups: ALWAYS keep your own copies even if your providers does extensive backups.

The VPS services would be monitored 24*7 , and measures are taken up if anything goes wrong. The VPS is under the control of the support, in the fully managed condition.

I agree with Dan here.
As rule management include full server monitoring from the web hosting company side. And in practice customer send request to the support with what he is needed to be installed or be done. There are PER hour service (you pay for the hours which were spent) and full management
According to your needs you can chose what you need (as rule web hosting company do offer you such opportunity)ServerPoint.com - a true hosting company since 1998
