    Talking Talk about a windfall!!!

Rare #1 Superman comic (from Action Comics) sells for $317,200 at auction: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090315/...an_first_issue

So, who bought it? None other than John Dolmayan from "System of a Down", of course.

Just goes to show what can happen when you take care of something, I guess.

With the web taking more precedence over print publications don't be too surprised if old print does become rarer and more valuable.

It will happen to magazines eventually as they move over to a more 'collectible' format. Most design magazines are already showing signs of this with high quality durable paper being used, and special consideration to layout etc to make each edition a unique piece.

With all those boxes I have packed up full of magazines I hope I'm not hoarding them for nothing. (most likely that I am hoarding them for nothing )

I haven't got a problem with it because I believe people should be able to do whatever they like with their money; but I find it a strange that somebody should want to tie up that amount of money in something that has no real value other than it's the first.

I realise of course that it can be regarded as an investment because there is almost certainly someone out there who would willingly pay more.

I just laugh when I think about a fictional conversation I might have with John Dolmayan.

John Dolmayan: I have the #1 Superman comic and I paid $317,200 for it.

Me: Congratulations, I have that comic too. I think it must be a copy; it cost me a 50p (75 cents). I really enjoyed the story. What did you make of it?

Stony silence, tumble weed tumbles by. More tumble weed.

I wished I'd never thought of it. I can't get it out of my mind now.

The few who learn by observation.
