    fixed height div has extra space, am using overflow: auto

    I have created a fixed height div, and set the overflow to auto for scrolling.
    Unfortunately the div has a lot of blank space at the bottom which I can't get rid of.

    here's the css:

    #container {
    background-color: #FFFFFF;
    width: 780px;
    margin-right: 107px;
    margin-left: 107px;
    height: 560px!important; /* real browsers */
    padding: 0px;
    text-align: left;
    position: absolute;
    top: 20px;
    left: auto;
    right: auto;
    border-right: 4px solid #E65922;
    border-left: 4px solid #E65922;
    overflow: auto;

    }

    the container contains two divs:

    #leftcol {
    float: left;
    width: 410px;
    background-color: #FFFFFF;
    /*min-height:100%;*/
    margin: 0px;
    padding-bottom: 10px;
    padding-left: 10px;
    padding-top: 10px;
    }

    #rightcolbox1 {
    width: 310px;
    font-size: 110%;
    border-left-width: 1px;
    border-left-style: solid;
    border-left-color: #999999;
    padding-top: 10px;
    padding-right: 10px;
    height:auto !important; /* real browsers */
    height:100%; /* IE6: treaded as min-height*/
    min-height:100%; /* real browsers */
    display: inline;
    }

    It's working correctly for me, at least in IE7 and FF3. What doc type are you specifying and in what browsers do you see the problem

    thanks for your reply, I'm using firefox 3, this is the doc type:
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" >

    would it help if I posted a link to the page?

    the extra space is caused by the min-height:100% on #rightcolbox1. Looks like you can just take that out.
