Question New to CMS - looking for suggestions for multi-user blog/pages/forums

I am interested in starting a new site for my local real-life community.

The site needs to be capable of the following:

    directories (business listings)

user blogs (users may have their own blogs)

site blogs (blogs by subject to which users may request permission to write to)

    forums

articles (pages) authored by myself and articles authored by users but published by me

I am looking for suggestions on a CMS to handle this scenario - where users can sign up for an account, join conversation on forums or start a blog, but also allowing for some blogs to be multi-user (with permissions given by site admin)

    Does this make sense?

    Any suggestions welcome.

Please check cmsmatrix.org. You should find a comprehensive list of all currently available CMS solutions and a features matrix. There are some CMSs that I can think of which can accomplish what you ask for however this is with add-on components.

Wordpress MU is great if you want your users to have there own blogs, the business listings will most likely have to be handcoded unless you can find a plug-in for it. For the forum you can integrate wordpress and phpbb or use bbpress which is also from the creators of wordpress. Good luck with your website!

Do you care what platform.. PHP/.NET? Many CMS's will strictly provide content management, but not some of the other things like forums and multi-author blogs.

If you'd consider .NET, check out PortalApp http://demo.portalapp.net

This has all of the features you need.
