Bumping posts, how to deal with them?

I recive a few "bump" posts on my forum a week, and there starting to tick off some of my long time members. How should i deal with these posts? How do you deal with them?

    Well...

Its hard to deal with bumping posts scripting wise. I would suggest just making a no bumping rule and ban or punish the people that do. Im not sure what else you could do.

What is bumping posts? Is that replying to threads youself just to keep them alive?

    *bump*

Yeah, it is. It's really annoying.

If people don't answer your post the first time, you either need to rewrite your problem or put a little effort into finding the solution yourself.

How about setting the forum so that a person can't reply to their own post? They could still edit, maybe, but not post until someone else posts.

Well, in vB and a few other forums, there is of course the option to "stick" a thread so it stays towards the top. If you don't prefer that (too many can be a negative), I know for a fact there are hacks to keep threads up and bump them automatically at vBulletin.org.
