Announcing CodeBurner 1.1: the HTML & CSS Reference for Firebug

I’m very pleased to announce an update to our highly useful Firebug extension — formerly known as FireScope, now called CodeBurner.

We changed the name because FireScope is already used by another organization in this industry — and in order to avoid any confusion, we thought we’d make a fresh start. Shame, I quite liked the name, and it took us several iterations to come up with that one! Makes me sympathize with the Firefox developers, who went through several names before arriving at the current one (remember Phoenix, anybody?).

Now we have a name that we can stick to and won’t have to change again! You’ll see that we still have the same snazzy logo and typeface though, and of course, the extension itself remains as useful and flexible as ever. In fact, we’ve just released Version 1.1, a small but handy upgrade with great features like:

    • added support for Firebug 1.4
    • direct links to online references in code examples, enabling easier access to detailed information, and live demos (where applicable)
    • user-interface improvements
    • fixed error handling when attempting to view non-existent code examples
    • fixed support-level classes for internationalization

As you can see, the name may be different, but CodeBurner is still an incredibly useful extension for web developers interested in looking up syntax, browser compatibility information, and code examples for HTML and CSS. You can install the latest version from the extension’s homepage, at http://tools.sitepoint.com/codeburner.

    Enjoy!

Does it mean that I have to re-install it then, to get it updated to 1.1 version?

CodeBurner is a great name too. I like it.

Nope, you don't need to uninstall and reinstall. The name is different, but it lives in the same place in your Firefox plugins folder as the original version did, so should be a simple upgrade.

Glad you like the name! Naming stuff like this can be tough!

I think you guy's did a better job developing Firescope. I dont really understand what Codeburner does? You guy's sorta made it confusing. You didn't really drop the hammer down.

Any chance of adding Javascript to the reference?

HTML and CSS are useful sure, but by far the most frequent 'looking up of stuff' that I do is with Javascript. Seeing as I do most of my JS building, debugging and correcting on Firebug (I learned from Simply JS ), it would be a welcome addition.

    Thumbs up

I think Code Burner is a real cool name which matches with Firefox. It is good to know about the upgraded features. I will download it surely and try out.

hi, i installed code burner and saw a reference tab on firebug console. isn't this something that would show you suggestions when editing css for example?
like when you type in css property "display", it would show you a list of possible values such as "none","block","inline", etc.?
