You can say I'm arrogant. To be honest I don't care. I've been told that many times.

And yes I make mistakes, the difference is that I own up to them rather than looking for excuses or something to blame.
I owned up to them I'm just explaining the reasoning behind it. Your too short-sighted to see that.

you are stuffing your experience in his head, don't do it.
he has his own life, and his own experience, and you should let him live it as he likes.
something that is true for you might not be true for him, times change, situations change, haircuts change.
the fact that you think that elvis haircuts are the best, doesn't mean that they are good for him.

and help only those who ask for it.

ryan's quality of finding excuses bugged you?

theres a saying, "you only see, in other people, what you have within yourself"

no need to explain, unless you want a higher post count and no need to get personal there.

I'd like to retract my lsat statement from "Same to you buddy" to "You mean suck up to my superiors? No thanks. I have time to learn, you don't. I'm allowed to learn it, you're not."

Either or gets my point across.

i am pretty sure he didn't mean that ryan.

i think he meant that, if you fail, you need to say, "oh i failed, better luck next time" instead of "i couldn't do it, my hands were wet"

and "" instead of "If you say no your lying. Either way I win."

    edit:
sadly we live in a community, and we need to play by the rules, or get expelled.
we can cheat, but nobody should know.

    as in Sparta
stealing is allowed, but getting caught is not.

    edit2:
    another tip,
    have a aim in life
and a aim for everything you do, for example in the conversation, ask yourself, what are you trying to achieve? and, are you achieving it?

    This is getting silly.

Thanks for the solutions, Paul. For what it's worth, I did experiment with a transparent .gif but I didn't think of putting the SPAN in there, which was the pitfall. Props to Yuri for suggesting such a tough quiz!

No offense to quiz b, but I'm pretty sure I'll break the rules to get the entire anchor thing.

    Aka <a><div></div></a>

why? if there is a easier/less buggy way? (that you can copy/past)
block level elements break horribly inside inline elements, i don't mind breaking the w3c rules to get what i want, if its easier, but as you can imagine, i like it more when everything works my way.

basically <a><div></div></a> is prone to get very buggy if you complicate it even a little bit more, i had to experience it first hand.

plus its more effective to have your content organized in a semantically correct manner.
(and there is no search engine penalty for bad code)

but this is just my method of solving it.

and its just a quiz, a brain puzzle, for those who like css.

anyway, do as you wish ryan.

Don't get me wrong I like CSS.
I'll just make a <a> display:block; to fill the entire space and just break the rules.

    What's the point of that?

You can't use invalid html to solve the problem because there's no point in the quiz otherwise.

But you shouldn't use invalid html in real life either - one of the points with this particular quiz is that it is a real life situation.

You can do it your way I'll do it mine. If you don't like my way then that is your opinion but for now it works just fine for me. Once I get it breaking I'll probably switch over but so far it has been steady for me.

One of the purposes of forums such as this, is to try and promote good web design practices, including correct semantics and code validity. I would have assumed that you were here, like many others (myself included), to learn and expound such practices...

I'm not saying I don't appreciate valid solutions to hacky ones, it's juts I'm lazy.

Plain and simple. Just drop it as the only thing we are doing here is increasing our post count.

so when you hover over the span, you are actually hovering over the link (because the span is inside the link), making the :hover css state activate and changing the background and border of the link, even tho it is under the text.
Sounds like... a CSS Sammich! I didn't has a sammich, but I eated it. With the real "meat" of the code in the middle.
