Pretty awesome webhost; I've had litreally 24/7 access to my websites, cheap domains (6$ domains) and near unlimited bandwidth.
CGI and Perl scripts work easyily; and database access is funfun.
I liked them, you guys should like them to![]()

How legit is something like this?
We shall see, though I tend to doubt that a huge host like 1and1 would be sending shills here. How legit is something like this?
celltransform, please share a domain that you've been hosting with 1and1.

Ye, I wouldn't recommend 1&1 they overcharge.

Currently we host with 1and1.
It is a pretty fast host - I guess my only problems with it is that the package we have doesn't include MYSQL (as an example at a cheaper rate Bluehost offers that)
The backoffice is not very intuitive IMO.
I guess besides that we are happy with it - but the lack of MYSQL will have us changing to another host when we are ready to move from our crap html site to a nice CMS powered by Wordpress.

I use 1and1, and have not problems. MySql is there and works great. I am not on the least expensive plan, but right next to it, and I can have 25 MySql databases.
I do not like their photo gallery, but there are lots of others that can be used, and I do use a couple of others.
I had an account with 1&1, hated it. You dont have much control over things, support isnt the best and constantly had minor little problems that took ages to get fixed. I think they are a little too big so that there customers are just numbers rather than a "respected customer".
1and1 is good but they dont charge customers annually and there cancellation and switch packages takes much time for effect.
In my experience, generally 1and1's problems are communications based,
some times their over seas call centre staff can be problematic.
However, after dealing with them for some time, I’ve kind of got the knack now.
I personally prefer to use hosting companies who have both their servers and call centres in my own country however.

Oh, my! The first couple of posts from people who actually like 1&1! Now, that's unusual!
For anyone else considering 1&1, my recommendation is to do your homework VERY WELL as they do not have a good reputation. Try to contact their support team with a question about your hosting needs; try to get a test account or trial period; ask for a money-back guarantee (for a trial period). Remember, EVERYTHING changes and they MAY have overcome the earlier problems which earned them that bad reputation.

DK
