    Basic MySQL login issue newbie

Hi, Ok, my login on terminal doesn't look like the book. It doesn't say shell anywhere.
    I have to login using /usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql -u root -p

My terminal window, (MAC Leopard) shows this before the mysql login:
    MyName:~myname$

I have managed to create db's and users etc after logging in. I bought the Yank book and cannot do what it instructs as my prompt is different and it says no such command after I type in the books code.

I really need a hand getting going on this please!!!
    TIA

hello, i have practically same issue. i have leopard on my computer. my apache is running already for some time, and it runs nicely. following the instructions from kevin yanks book usually i get an answer that the command wasn't found. i couldn't change the mysql password because than it would stop running. i've finally managed to create some table, but than again, i can't access the database via localhost and root user from the php file.
    any help please?
