A website for distributing digital documents

    Hi there everyone,

Im new to this website but hope to become an active forum user here

I have basic knowledge for setting up php scripts for websites e.g. Wordpress and Drupal.

A friend of mine has asked me for some help setting up a website for distributing teaching materials e.g. PDFs DOCs and so on to schools and colleges. I was just wondering if anyone had any advice for a good script for this. Sorry if this is in the wrong place in the forum.

    Cheers

I don't know of any existing scripts that if you are willing to learn it could be pretty simple to set up a system to do so. You would just need a database table that could store the name and file name of the document. Then you'd need a script to allow uploading to this database and server. Then, you could optionally have a password protected source.

If I come across something already made I'll let you know. If you'd like to try it yourself and have problems, you can always ask them here.

Do you need user authentication? Tracking? Security? Limited number of downloads per user?

What are your friend's requirements exactly?

Why not just upload the files as WordPress attachments if you are going to distribute them for free?

If you are trying to sell the files, I know a website called swpal could be very helpful.

I suppose you have to have the full requirements for the project.

    1. It could be as simple as using an pdf creator Adobe Acrobat Professional
or open source version and converting doc to pdf's
    2. automating an ftp client to upload the files at certain times to a specific
    folder
    3. Posting the link to the folder on the website
    4. folks can get to the folder
