    Simple PDA/Tablet Help

    Hi,

I've been searching the net for hours to try and find a device that is suitable for a project I am starting and had no luck, if anyone can help I would be eternaly grateful to you.

I am looking for a device with these specs:

    Palm Sized
    Touch Screen
Simpl eWeb Browser (HTML 3.2 support or WAP will do).
Need to be able to add 802.11b (Wireless LAN) support to it.

I don't need anything flashy like Word, Excel or a colour screen (Would be nicer though), just a web browser that can cope with HTML 3.2 or WAP and SSL and possibly digital certificates to identify the device to the server.

I also need it to be pretty cheap as well as this is just a proof of concept at the moment for a project, I'm not bothered if it is second hand.

    Thank you,

Sorry to sound generic, but do an ebay search for Pocket PC devices...

Been there, done that, and Yahoo auctions and Amazon auctions. I ideally need to find something around 100-150 as for the final project thre will be about 5 needed, so if one device costs 500 then it's going to add quite a bit to the final cost. Something like the iPaq (Which others have suggested) is overkill for this project and would be a waste of hardware.

    Thanks,

Looks like you might be up the creek, as the two main requirments you have (web support and wireless add on) make the costs skyrocket.

Try one of the Handspring Visors though: some factory reconditioned ones can be purchased for about $150 that have the ability to support web viewing (you have to DL and install the app though, it doesn't come preloaded), and they sell add-on boards for the wireless aspect, but that addon hardware usually costs about as much as the PDA did.

Yeah, I've bene looking at the Visors and the wireless stuff is waaaay too expensive. Bluetooth is an option, Pocket PC and WinCE 3.0 seem to be the best bet as they are supported by nearly all CFII BlueTooth and 802.11b cards - which aren't all that much really (Well, not if you get them from eBay ).

If only you could get drivers for the wireless cards for the Palm devices

I did look at an Apple Newton, but I couldn't find the only 802.11b card supported anywhere - the Lucent WaveLAN Turbo Silver.
