Having an intro page is reminiscent of the 90's, there is a reason why no one does this anymore - it's practically pointless and in addition the crawler doesn't index your actual main page and this may result in a lower ranking ( im not SEO expert, feel free to correct me ).

    I would advise against one.

yea but i have see a couple websites where it was done tastefully, and it was like mindblowing alone just watching the intro page in action. I already get high traffic to my site so i am not worried about ranking, i just want to add more to my site.

You could make a div that sits on top of everything. When you click enter site, use javascript to move or delete the div. You can include the code in your edit html part of blogspot.

While this is correct, a new trend has occurred with "introduction boxes" below the navigation and logo and above the content, which describe (very briefly) what the website is about (or a quick intro to the contents of the page). This technique is a very good application of achieving an introduction to the page or site.

http://jquery.com/demo/thickbox/ or http://dev.iceburg.net/jquery/jqModal/ could be used to achieve this on window load/dom ready, though they rely on the jQuery framework.

If you don't feel like including the whole framework then maybe go with the original http://www.huddletogether.com/projects/lightbox/ except you might need to modify it to fire on the load event and not any link clicks.

Remember regular visitors are going to see this effect and close it every single time they view that page. It tends to get boring after a few visits. A site where I did the database and a friend did the static pages has a click to enter page, and even after not visiting it for over six months, it annoyed me (and the person I was showing the database bits I'd done didn't like it on first view!) It's so 1996, move into the current century please and drop the idea.

We used to call them "splash" pages. I recently revisited an old school site I designed that had one, and it was very uncool. I have to recommend against them as well.

Interesting. Got some links to pages that do this well? It might be applicable to the site I'm designing, though I might -- if I do it at all -- use a thickbox to present the info (a "mission statement").
